Kat Von D Shade & Light Face Contour Palette Reviews

I have been drooling over Kat Von D’s beauty products for months now. I always swatch pretty much all of her product at Sephora, I may even pet them a little before moving on. With two kids and a house and those pesky bills, I can’t always bring myself to spend a lot on high-end beauty products (which is why I’m always on the hunt for good affordable products). One of the products I wanted from her line the most was the contour palette because the colors were actually cool and neutral, which is what I’m always looking for since my skin is very pale. I showed my boyfriend a few of Kat Von D’s makeup videos a few months ago and told him I wanted this and he got it for me for Christmas (along with the Innerstellar KVD palette and a few Buxom lip polishes). I was so excited to finally try this, keep reading for my thoughts on the Shade & Light Face Contour Palette.

Kat Von D Shade & Light Face Contour Palette Reviews:

Description from website:

We came, we saw, we contoured! How did we get through the day before Shade+Light?? This contour collection was a game changer for makeup mavericks everywhere! Inspired by an artist’s palette, Kat created six matte shades that look truly stunning on EVERYONE! The contour and highlight pairs are arranged by undertone, so you get neutral, warm and cool shades! (But you can use all the shades no matter your undertone). Use the deeper contour shades to add natural shadow and depth to your face, then accentuate your best angles with the brighter highlight shades!

Learn how to master three key contouring techniques with the included insert that Kat illustrated herself, or check out our videos section for even more in-depth tutorials. The formula is SO incredibly fine, we feel like we’re brushing on powdered silk. And speaking of brushes, we made one specifically for this very palette! My Thoughts:

I’m not really into that hardcore contouring that completely transform your face, I actually am not even skilled enough to be able to do that. But some light contouring under your cheekbones, along your jawline, your temples and on the sides of your nose does wonders! Most days I only wear this under my cheekbones and on my nose. What I really love about this is the first two ‘contour’ shades on the second row. Everything else I had tried so far was a warm tone and ended up looking orangey on me and I do not like the oompa-loompa look. The first two shades are very light and have cool/neutral undertones that complement my skin very well. It’s really light but super pigmented so you can easily build this up if you like a more defined contour. While the third shade is too dark for me, I can use it as eyeshadow or even to fill in my brows.

The Kat Von D powders are super soft and easy to apply, build up and blend out without having any fallout. The highlight shades on the top row are fantastic for setting your under eyes and/or to brighten up the high points of your face. There is a really nice pale shade that’s perfect as a setting powder, a ‘banana’ shade that’s perfect to shade your under eyes and a slightly darker shade. I think they did an amazing job at making this palette suitable for so many skin tones and undertones. You can also use the highlight shades to prime or set your eyelids, this palette really is multi-tasking! I have a few other contour palettes and powders and nothing compares to this palette. I know it’s a bit pricey, but it’s one of those products that is worth the splurge and you really will get so much use out of this. This palette was exactly what I was hoping it would be, and while I’m not a contour pro I still love using this for light-every day use.
