Maybelline Color Sensational Vivid Matte Liquid

I have been loving all the new beauty products that drugstore brands have been releasing these last few months and I love lip products so I really wanted to try out the new Color Sensational Vivid Matte Liquid lip products from Maybelline. And yes, the cute square packaging was another reason why I wanted to try this product, I’m a sucker for square packaging. Lipsticks are one of those beauty products that I’m not too picky about because there are some fantastic in drugstore brands as there is in high end products, but I still expect a good pigment from all my lipsticks. Keep reading below for my thoughts on this product.

My Thoughts:

I’ll start off by saying that these are not true liquid lipsticks, which is a shame since they are calling it Vivid Matte Liquid. I think Vivid Matte Gloss would have been a more accurate name for this since it’s a weird cross between a matte and a gloss. It’s like this wants to be a liquid lipstick…but it’s not quite there yet. Now, just because this isn’t a true matte liquid lipstick doesn’t mean that it’s a bad product. In fact, I actually liked this (although I’m not a liquid lipstick fan so take that into consideration) product and want to get more colors.

The consistency of this product is very different from other lip products I’ve tried. It’s like a cross between the Nyx Soft Matte Lip Creams and a lip gloss. I do find that if you use a little bit of product, it does look more on the matte side which is nice because the formula is so pigmented that you only need a little bit. I happen to be a fan of glosses (I’m hoping the matte lip trend dies down soon) so I don’t mind putting on a lot for a glossy look or putting on a little bit for a slightly more matte finish.

I’m more of a nude-pink lip kind of girl so I ended up going with the shade Nude Flesh, which I really liked. I like to wear this alone and over other lipsticks to create a unique color. If you are looking for those hardcore liquid lipsticks like the Kat Von D kind that aren’t going ANYWHERE once you apply it, then this probably won’t be for you. If you’re like me and you aren’t crazy about the drying effect of true matte liquid lipsticks, or if you like your matte lipsticks to be more like the Nyx Soft matte lip creams, then this could definitely be a lip product you will like. The color selection is beautiful, the pigmentation is vivid and bold and the finish feels great on your lips. While I wouldn’t really call this a ‘matte’ I still liked it anyway.

Have you used this product yet? What’s your favorite matte lip product???
