I’ve been into a more natural, lighter coverage look lately and after loving the Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation, I decided to try out the Dream Wonder Powder. I have a few other powders that I use when I don’t want to apply foundation, and although I really like them I don’t really feel like the colors are the exact match for my skin since I need more of a neutral undertone. I’ve had my eye on this for a few weeks and decided to finally try it when it was on sale. Keep reading for my thoughts on this powder.
Since I didn’t really start wearing foundation until last year, I’ve gotten used to a lighter coverage. I like BB Creams, tinted moisturizers and foundations with light coverage. On days when I don’t want to wear any of that on my face, I like having a powder that I can quickly apply to my face to cover up any redness and imperfections. I dust on some powder, throw on a little brush, lip gloss and eyeliner and call it a day. I also like to use this when I do a more made up look complete with highlight, eye shadow, mascara, etc. I love that I can use this powder for a minimal makeup look as well as a with my normal makeup routine.
I loved that the color (10-Porcelain Ivory) was my shade and that it had more of a neutral undertone (instead of a yellow or pink undertone) and I liked that I can use it alone or over my Dream Velvet foundation (or any foundation). This doesn’t leave your skin with a powdery or cakey finish and it has just the perfect amount of light coverage you want from a powder. I was actually surprised by how much pigment this had and loved that it still felt very lightweight and gave you a natural looking finish. You can build this up if you want more coverage, although I think just one application is good enough for me. I do use this with a primer and I think that really helps the powder go on your skin smoother. I normally use the Maybelline Master Prime primers, the Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser, or the Laura Mercier Foundation Primer.
I really loved this powder, not only was it super affordable but the color match and pigmentation is so good. As far as the packaging, I think it’s really cute. It has a separate compartment at the bottom to store a sponge applicator, which is included but I use a flat top brush to apply mine, and it has a mirror which is such a bonus as I always forget to include a mirror in my purse.
Do you use any powders? Which ones are your favorites?
