I initially bought my first powder foundation last year when I was simply trying to prevent my nose from looking oily. Back then, I didn’t wear foundation yet and I was just barely dabbling in BB creams and tinted moisturizers. I had no idea that there was a difference between foundation powders, setting powders, finishing powder and blotting powders and I’m a bit embarrassed to say that I learned my way through mistakes (hello cakey face!)
Now that I do wear traditional foundation as well as airbrush makeup and I’m a bit more knowledgeable in terms of powders, I have two powder foundations that I’ve really been loving these past few months. One is a great drugstore option and the other is a more high end option if you want to splurge.
Here are my thoughts on these two powder foundations. As always, I suggest moisturizing your face before applying a powder foundation and a primer is a must for me. You may also try a night time facial oil as primer. They works like a charm!
I just find that the powder ‘sticks’ better to the primer and the coverage is not only better but it lasts longer. If you want to prevent that powdery look (depending on how much you use), I also suggest a setting spray to finish it off. Although you can use both alone or over foundation, I use them alone (with primer).
It Cosmetics Celebration Foundation Powder Review:I’m pretty sure I have almost every single product from It Cosmetics on my wishlist. (I loooooove their brow pencil!) Their products have amazing ratings and I had this powder on my wishlist for a while. During last Black Friday, this powder (with the foundation/concealer brush) was on sale at Amazon. I got both on sale as a bundle which ended up being cheaper than if I just got the powder. I had been using a drugstore powder foundation before and while I really liked it, the color was a bit too dark.
This powder foundation is really good and so worth the price! I love it for those days when I don’t feel like bothering with foundation but I still want coverage or when I want to get ready quicker. I’m amazed at how good the coverage is and how the finish looks so similar to when I wear foundation. I use the brush that came with it instead of the provided sponge and I am in love with it! If you are looking to splurge on a good quality powder foundation, I highly recommend the Celebration Foundation!
L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Powder Review:The Infallible line by L’Oreal is one of my favorite drugstore lines to use. I am super impressed by their foundation, their lipsticks, eye shadows, eyeliners and mascaras. When I first try a new product, I always like to try the drugstore version first and L’Oreal is my go-to brand.
I love the pro-matte foundation and I knew this would have to be my pick for powders. I am really impressed with this powder, and if it weren’t for the fact that the color is too dark for me (I got Nude Beige in 300 because Porcelain in 100 was too light and they never seem to have Natural Beige in 200) I would just use this powder all the time!
The coverage is really good and the finish rivals the finish of the It Cosmetics one I have. I use a powder brush with this too instead of the sponge and most of the time I use setting spray after. The finish isn’t powdery or chalky and I would definitely use this again, just in my color next time. This powder is a fantastic option if you are looking for an affordable option to foundation powders.
Do you use foundation powders? If so, which one is your favorite? Let me know in the comments!
