I love a good primer. I have larger pores and I’m always looking for a primer that will fill in my pores, smooth my face, and make my foundation go on smoother and last longer. I’ve tried drugstore and high-end primers and have found some that I really love and others that didn’t work for me at all. When I bought the Tarte Timeless Smoothing Primer, I was surprised by how similar the consistency was and decided to put them to the test. Keep reading for my thoughts on both primers!
Tarte Timeless Smoothing Primer Review:
I had an Amazon gift card last month and decided to splurge a little on a high end primer. The one that caught my attention was the Tarte Timeless Smoothing Primer and I’ll admit that it was the pretty little pot that caught my attention, but I also really like other Tarte products.
This primer has a very light and fluffy texture that smooths into an almost invisible base that smooths out pores and imperfections. In addition to smoothing your skin and acting as a base for your foundation, it also gives you a matte finish which is especially great if you are oily in some areas like I am.
I really liked this primer. Even without foundation, my skin already looked better on its own. I tried this with a few different foundations and loved the way it worked with them. I think the only thing I didn’t particularly like was the packaging.
Even though the tub is really cute (frosted glass), it’s hard to get to, especially if you have nails. I really wish this came in a tub. Even though I was really happy with this primer, it reminded me so much of the L’Oreal Perfecting Primer.
L’Oreal Studio Secrets Professional Magic Perfecting Base Review :
I bought this primer last year during one of my grocery runs. L’Oreal is one of my favorite drugstore products and I was curious about this primer since I hadn’t seen one like this. I already reviewed this primer last year but I’ll quickly recap here. Like I said, I have large pores, especially on my nose and this smoothed them right over. Not only did it smooth over my pores, but the matte finish it gave my skin was so good. I would wear this without foundation if I was ever in a rush, or lazy.
The formula of L’Oreal Magic Perfecting Base is not really silicone-y or lotion-y, but it’s a very lightweight and silky mousse-like product that blends very well on your face. I use a pew dabs on my face and spread them out in circular motions until it’s all blended out on my skin.
Another plus was the price, this primer is significantly inexpensive which is not bad at all compared to other primers I’ve tried. My skin looks better, my foundation looks better and I just feel like my makeup overall looks better.
Like the Tarte Timeless Smoothing Primer, my only complaint is the tub. This tub is smaller than the Tarte one so it’s even harder to get product if you have nails. I feel like so much product gets wasted on my nails. I use a cotton swab to get some product from the tub and apply it to my face, but I still feel like product gets wasted.
Splurge or Save?
These two products are sooooo similar! I swatched both products side by side and I even had my sister and my cousin try both of them out and we all agreed that not only is the L’Oreal Magic Perfecting Primer a great dupe for the Tarte Timeless Smoothing Primer, but we ended up liking the L’Oreal version a little bit better. It is much cheaper than the Tarte version, and you will also get the same amount of product. I recommend you save yourself some money and get the L’Oreal version instead!
